The Association for the Commemoration
of Bat-Chen Shahak
The Association for the Commemoration of Bat-Chen Shahak (z"l) (Registered Association) was founded in 1997 to perpetuate the memory of Bat-Chen Shahak, of blessed memory, who was murdered on the Purim holiday in 1996 on her fifteenth birthday.
It is a non-profit association.
The association’s goals :
Promoting peace – encouraging meetings between Arabs and Jews, nurturing dialogue and rejecting violence.
Fostering literacy through educational endeavors in creative writing.
Each year, on Bat-Chen’s birthday, the association holds an evening at which Bat-Chen Shahak grants are distributed. They are awarded to people who were involved in one of two fields – co-existence, or literacy.
Our association has published and translated Bat-Chen Diaries in Hebrew, Dutch, Arabic, Italian, Japanese, German and English.
Our association organized a writing competition; in the name of Bat-Chen together with the "Aharai" organization.
Our association organized workshops to promote coexistence and meetings between Arab and Jewish school. Together they planned and built a joint art project .
Our association took part in an Israeli – Palestinian Study Group under the sponsorship of UPS which was a joint venture between 'ESHED' , Israel, 'THE WAY' from the Palestinian Authority, and UPS (Pontifical Salesian University) in Rome
Our association has established a mixed group of Arab and Jewish women working together on an art project entitled:
"WOMEN WEAVING A DIALOG"
