To Grandpa

To Grandpa (Written for the memorial service to her grandfather, Raffi Ben-Shoham, z"l, on October 8th 1995) We face the grave, and another tear falls A cold grave looks back at us. Oh, it's just not you! The words form into sentences That are so harsh and threatening, Nothing like you at all, But we have to respect them, Because it's the last memory, It's your house and we're the guests. So we'll be polite. The tears keep falling - loving and concerned. They care about you. They want and try To penetrate the cold marble. If only they could warm your body a little. They just can't believe, There's no logic Only yesterday you hugged me, Only yesterday you stood here at my side. The tears promise to remember you And to keep you in our hearts.
